Not only will Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teach you how to protect yourself but there many additional benefits including:

  • It's great exercise requiring both aerobic and anaerobic endurance. Research has found that 30 minutes of hard rolling could burn approximately 500 calories.

  • You will always be challenged. There is a wide variety of knowledge to learn in BJJ, starting with basic positions, sweeps, transitions and submissions with many different techniques. Because no one opponent is the same you will be forced to adapt which technique to use in each situation.  Other concepts learned are things like balance, leverage, framing and more. It's unlikely you will ever run out of new things to learn in BJJ.

  • Regular sparring opportunities. BJJ is fun to learn because there are opportunities to test your technique against different opponents, meaning you must continuously refine and change up your game.

  • There are progression and mastery opportunities. BJJ has a belt and stripe system. As you progress in your BJJ journey you can also specialize in different guard and game styles.

  • Learning BJJ teaches you patience, problem solving skills, builds discipline and humility, develops your ability to deal with pressure, increases confidence, and can help clear your mind.

  • You will be a part of a new community! When you start learning BJJ you'll be introduced not only to your gym community, but also the wider international BJJ community.

A good way to get started is to sign up for our Kickstart Introductory Session, which is an hour of private training with a coach for $59. This will also help you follow along in our classes if you do decide to join!
